I put together this video to go through the basics of contouring and highlighting. Contouring is a great way to enhance your bone structure. This allows you to enhance your cheekbones or fake them if you have not been blessed with them.
Highlighting gives a nice glow to the high points of your face: cheekbones, bridge of nose, forehead, and cupid’s bow. I do caution on the highlighting if you have extremely oily skin: this will only make it look like you have slathered cooking oil on your face.
To contour you need THE right brush and THE right product. An angle brush works best to contour. Its shape allows to fit best on the hollows of your cheeks and hug your face. For contouring, I recommend a matte product, such as a matte bronzer. I rotate between Sephora’s bronzer in Riviera and Bare Minerals Warmth. I believe that finding a product that is two to three shades darker than your skin tone will work best to flatter you.
For highlighting, my fave products to use are Trish McEvoy Pressed Shimmer Powder in Nude and Bare Mineral all-over face color in Pure Radiance. Both products are shimmery without being chunky and create a subtle, glow-like effect. J-Lo anyone?
I hope you find this helpful. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any more questions. What other products do you like to use for contouring and highlighting? Do tell!
