Let’s start prepping for Spring makeup, yes?  A few weeks ago, I attended a beauty event organized by Fashion.Style.Beauty and ThisThatBeauty to preview Spring 2010 beauty trends, courtesy of DEX Cosmetics at their Chelsea Studio.  This also served as an introduction for me to DEX Cosmetics and their amazing array of makeup.

Spring 2010 makeup trends are varied as seen all over the runway last September, and DEX cosmetics has done a phenomenal job at outlining the key ones.  There are tons of looks to experiment with, and you are bound to find the ones that work best for you.  Chances are you already have several of these colors in your kit; all you have to do is get some key items to update your makeup looks.

This piece will be accompanied by a series of makeup videos with my take on each of these trends – I need to figure out where to squeeze them in as I am running around during Fashion Week.  We will make this happen!

Spring 2010 Beauty Trends

While the initial thought is to associate this with the 80′s, this time around the blues lean towards the indigos and wearable chambrays.  No frost here people!  L.A.M.B and Tibi highlighted this trend in their shows last year.  DEX recommends mixing a highly pigmented cobalt or indigo hue with a black liner for a twist on the smokey eye.

A simple, feminine look is timeless.  Think peaches and pinks for cheeks, soft browns and greys for the eyes, and a natural berry for the lips.  Glosses are always key during Spring and Summer looks; look for poppies, corals, pinks and nudes.  Michael Kors, Pucci, Alberta Ferretti, Etro and Moschino Cheap And Chic featured these looks on the catwalk.

The Matte Lip in Surprising Hues

Recall your days of grunge, Hole, and Drew Barrymore with a daisy barrette on her head and matte brown lips.  This time around, incorporate orange and lilac, as seen on Twinke by Wenlan and Timo Weiland.  Too much?  Tone these lips down by mixing them with a nude lipstick.

Ice Ice Baby

Cool tones of sky blue, turquoise (my fave), lilac and icy white all blended into a great eye look, creating a two-tone color effect.  Pair this eye look with a satiny skin, while highlighting cheeks, bridge of the nose and forehead for a gentle, luminescent glow. Pump it up with sheer coral hues on the lips.  Watch my video on contouring and highlighting for a quick rundown on the highlighting part.

Multi-hued Metallic Eyeshadow

Time to bust the color wheel out!  This look mixes multiple colors all at once in subtle and bright hues.  Think complementary colors like copper and olive green (this is my go to look), turquoise and gold (gah!), silver and pink (drool!).  You can go all out, or tone it down by doing a wash of colors instead.  Lela Rose featured this look on the runway.

Nobody Move Nobody Get Hurt Neutral

For us smoky eye lovers, the trend continues but toned down for a softer finish with a wash of color over the eye lids.  The color palette: light browns, greys, bronzes and coppers.  Warm terracottas, beiges and soft browns work for eyes, lips and cheeks.  Swirl your bronzer and blusher and apply to forehead, cheeks and bridge of the nose, for a fresh and healthy complexion.

The Inverted Smokey Eye

Seen on Tracy Reese’s show, this look is essentially achieved by smudging shadow to the lower lash, followed by lining the entire eye and lengthening mascara on the top lashes.

Fun in the Sun

This look consists of healthy, sun-kissed makeup.  Think terracotta bronzers and blushes swept all over the face to create a natural complexion.  A soft touch of color on the eyes and lips stained in neutral or light rose shades.  This look was seen at Max Mara, Etro and Gucci.

Orange You Glad

If you are an 80′s lover like me, then this one is for you, hot stuff!  Orange this time around is “more wearable” , ranging from soft corals and varying intensities of orange.    Dust your cheeks with peachy corals or a sheer peach wash for a healthy glow.  Lips take soft matte shades or glossy apricot shades.  Loewe, Dior and Sonia Rykiel featured variations of this look.

Cool Pinks

These are icy pinks – pinks with blue undertones, and they are everywhere: lips and eyes.  Tommy Hilfiger, Milly and Norma Kamali played with these tones in the runway.

So, which one is your favorite?
